Posse Chicago Openings
Trainer
The role of the Posse trainer is to help recruit, train, support, encourage and maintain contact with Posse Scholars. The Posse trainer works with Scholars beginning in their senior year of high school and continuing to their graduation from the partner college or university. The Posse trainer works with Scholars both on an individual basis and in groups. The Posse Trainer reports to the Program Director of Posse Chicago and will work in close collaboration with a partner Trainer.
Responsibilities
- Raise awareness of Posse program at high schools and community-based organizations through personal contact with college counselors, principals, program directors and other staff
- Assist in recruitment of students for the Posse program
- Serve as a resource for candidates throughout the recruitment process
- Help organize and deliver recruitment, assessment and selection activities
- Select Posse Scholars, in collaboration with partner college and university officials
- Plan, facilitate and evaluate workshops, summer retreats, and other activities for up to three Posses during the eight-month, pre-college training program
- Assist writing coaches in planning, implementation and assessment of writing program
- Develop and maintain relationships with Posse Scholars at up to three partner colleges and universities through regular campus visits, telephone calls, email and other correspondence
- Develop and maintain relationships with Posse Mentors at up to three partner colleges and universities, participate in Mentor training, communicate regularly with Mentors by phone and email throughout academic year
- Assist with designing and producing newsletters, publications, and programming materials.
- Maintain relationships with staff, administrators and faculty at partner colleges and universities
- Plan, facilitate and evaluate annual Posse Plus Retreats at partner colleges and universities
- Plan and attend graduation ceremonies at partner colleges and universities
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Experience working with youth; facilitation experience; counseling experience; and two years previous work experience desired
- Experience working one-on-one with high school and college aged students
- Excellent demonstrated skills in writing, communication, presentation and time management
- Ability to organize, manage, prioritize and complete multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to relate to and interact with high-school and college-aged participants from diverse backgrounds
- Must be enthusiastic, possess a strong work ethic, be able to work independently and as part of a team, and serve as a positive role model for Posse Scholars and staff
- Knowledge of Chicago public high schools
- Willing and able to travel throughout year (current driver’s license strongly preferred)
- Computer skills (MS Word and Excel, internet research, email, etc.)
- Demonstrated belief in Posse’s mission and values

Posse New York Openings
Director
The primary responsibilities of the Director are to represent the youth focused mission of the program, manage the financial operations of the site, maintain strong university partner relationships, work in conjunction with the national development office to support funding initiatives in New York, work closely with a local advisory board, and to recruit and manage a team that ensures the coordination of all program operations. Posse New York is the largest and oldest of seven sites operated by The Posse Foundation. The Director must be highly motivated, organized, enthusiastic, willing to travel, a great communicator, hard working, and a strong role model. The Director reports to one of two Regional Vice Presidents.

Program Director

These principles are crucial to the success of the organization and our team as they have a significant and direct effect on our working environment and, most importantly, on the Posse Scholars and the partner institutions with which we work closely.
The primary responsibilities of the Program Director in New York are to oversee and manage the Posse program for up to six (6) university partners. The Program Director is responsible for managing a staff of up to four (4) trainers and one program coordinator. S/he will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating all program operations for his/her team. These include: maintaining a network of school and community based organizations, overseeing the pre-collegiate training program, overseeing the on-campus program, communicating and working closely with the career program, organizing and attending summer and on-campus retreats, scheduling program activities and maintaining relationships with university partner administrators and staff. The Program Director will also oversee student academic performance and retention and provide regular reports about program outcomes to his/her team. S/he will also insure trainer development and effectiveness. The Program Director will work closely with the Director of the site to insure that his/her program is operating in the most effective way possible. The Program Director will support the Director of the site in maintaining university relations with his/her assigned university partners through campus visits and regular communication. The Program Director must be detail-oriented, highly organized, enthusiastic, a great communicator, hard working, and a strong role model. The Program Director reports directly to Director of the site.
